The SGA leadership conference at Camp Horizons has been providing Job Corps
student leaders many opportunities since its first program in 1996. The
conference allows SGA student leaders from various participating Job Corps
Centers to take part into a four-day long leadership program.
Both
students and advisors attend program workshops specifically designed to help
them improve their leadership skills. Attendees are also provided with the
opportunity to partake into the Horizons Ropes Course Challenge program to
sharpen their team skills and better know their teammates.
The
conference has witnessed a mounting interest and is now happening three times
during the Spring and Fall. Since 1996, about twenty two Centers from different
regions have been flocking to Horizons Outdoor Learning Center, our conference site to enhance
their leadership, presentation, public speaking skills, and network with other SGA leaders. At the end of the
conference, the SGA from each Job Corps Center will draft and present an Action
Plan to their peers and later to their management staff.
